Flash Camp Session List

The sessions for the Flash Camp Track are listed below.
You can also view the complete camp schedule

  • BUILDING YOUR FIRST FLEX/AIR APPLICATION WITH FLEX 4 (2-hour Hands On Session)
    Presenter: Jun Heider, RealEyes Media

This is a hands-on session gear toward people that are new to Flex and AIR development. The session will cover various aspects of Flex and AIR development through both lecture and hands-on exercises. Development will be based around the use of Flex Builder, the premiere Flex and AIR development IDE to build Flex and AIR application. After completing this session, the attendee will be armed with enough information to start building Flex and AIR applications. In addition, as a take-away bonus all walkthroughs will be provided in an incomplete and completed format for future reference.
  • FLEX APPLICATION FRAMEWORKS PANEL
Panelists: RealEyes, Digital Primates, EffectiveUI, Factory Labs, Round Arch

This session is going to be an open discussion of what types of frameworks or development guidelines some of the leading organizations are using, and what the reasons are for using them. The panel will be comprised of Flash Camp speakers with each giving a HIGH LEVEL overview of which frameworks their organization uses, or which principal design patterns/development guidelines they prefer. Once the panelists have given their overviews, there will be a Q&A session.
  • DESIGNER DEVELOPER WORK FLOW WITH FLASH CATALYST AND MORE
    Presenter: Adam Flater, Round Arch

The creation of graphic assets and fitting those assets into a workflow is a problem that has existed as long as user interfaces have been built. As user experience methodologies grow and technological capabilities increase this problem becomes even more poignant. In this session we will review the history of this problem and the current toolset that aims to bridge the gap between design and development.
  • NEXT GENERATION TESTING
    Presenter: Michael Labriola, Digital Primates

Unit testing in Flex is taking a giant leap forward. First learn about the latest technologies, their integration into the Flex developers workflow and the promises offered by these advancements. Then learn how to write tests using these new methods, how those tests can be used effectively and the theory behind their use. Finally, learn about the extension points and how numerous testing projects can now converge to offer solutions now and into the future of Flex.
  • INTEGRATING FLASH WITH HARDWARE
    Presenter: Kevin Hoyt, Adobe Systems

We as developers spend countless hours writing code, yet when you turn the monitor off, all your hard work disappears. I wanted to fix that problem and set off to “get outside the box” using the Flash Platform. That exploration starts with web camera image processing, moves to physical hardware interaction with Phidgets, goes wireless with WiiFlash, and finishes with a look at the Arduino hobbyist board.
  • FLEX 4 DEEP DIVE: UI & DEV.
Presenters: Juan Sanchez & RJ Owen, EffectiveUI

This session will cover what’s new in Flex 4 - how the new components work, some talk about the component lifecycle - and how to integrate Flex 4 with Flash Catalyst. I’ll be talking about all the sweet development details in Flex 4 with Juan covering the vastly less interesting designer stuff about Catalyst. Okay, it’s pretty interesting too, I guess.
  • FLASH PLATFORM PANEL Q&A
Panelists: Adobe, RealEyes Media, and More

The last 40 minutes of RMAC will be dedicated to a Camp Panel Q&A. We want to provide an opportunity at the end of the event for people to be able to ask questions about items that might not have been covered within the session, or that they thought of after the session. Whether it’s answering the question right away, or even just leading them in the direction of where they can find an answer, it ultimately decreases the chance of people leaving with unanswered questions. It also helps promote the idea of a Flash Community Event which is what it’s all about.
